With more than 40 years of professional experience, Gail L. Lamoureux, BS RN PMH-BC, has developed deep expertise in mental health nursing and psychiatry across numerous institutions. A care manager at the health insurance company Humana since 2009, she is dedicated to helping patients experiencing mental health struggles and teaching methods for dealing with anxiety without the use of pharmaceutical drugs. Most notably, she helped a patient with agoraphobia who hadn’t left her home in 10 years. Long motivated by a passion for making care accessible for people and providing tools to succeed in their lives, she previously spent more than 20 years as a geriatric nurse and as a nurse’s aide.

Ms. Lamoureux attributes her immense success in her field to her numerous mentors and guides, including her older sister, a cardiac nurse. She prepared for her career by earning an associate degree in nursing in 1981, followed by a bachelor’s in health care leadership. A registered nurse in the state of Florida, she bolstered her credentials by becoming certified as a behavioral psychiatric mental health nurse and a gerontological nurse. In 2023, she was nominated for a Humana Excellence and Leadership Award.

Outside of her primary endeavors in the nursing field, Ms. Lamoureux has served her community as a professional clown, through which she enjoys making seniors laugh. Also a member of the South East Clown Association, she placed third at a talent show within a major clown convention. She also previously dedicated her time to delivering food and resources to the senior population and friends at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. In her spare time, she also enjoys scrapbooking.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Lamoureux strives to continue excelling in the health care sector and helping patients as a nurse. She encouraged aspiring professionals “Find a niche that you love; it will compel you to keep going.”
